Scarp Heaven

This is what i call a good movie --- entertaining, sensational, and intriguing while being inspiring at the same time.

There's a very peculiar atmosphere throughout the whole film; for one moment you thought this is a black comedy but the next second only to figure out that the scene you found amusinging turns out to be a real grief later on. This mixed emotion sustains... and it sharpens each time until you collapse. Why, just when the audience along with the hero indulged themselves with the "revenge game" and believed that they have found the justice they long for, the ultimate solution to all problems, the way out in life, did they discover that this "game" has become something more than they can imagine, and there's no turning back. The last scene when the hero stares blankly at the camera suddenly recalled the beginning of the film, in which a desperate man did something that he can't make up with, and ended up shooting himself on the bus he hijacked.

The other two leading characters in film also choosed destruction. The hero, however, failed to commit suicide, was left behind with the mess he caused. This inevitably makes me associate this film with "Ober", the last movie i saw yesterday and instead of concluding everything with death, the hero managed to survive...only to face the tangly result. Does it mean that we are all doomed to live with the chaotic world? What is the exit in life? Is there any other way out except death?

I love the scene when one of the characters scattered the ash of his dad on the top of the building and the panorama of Yokohama city faded... like being covered by nuclear dust. It was just serenely beautiful... and sad, as if to be a prevision for the coming calamity.

To me, this film is the adult version of "The Edukators", for that it provides something deeper when it comes to "dream" and "passion" versus "reality". The director doesn't simply tell us that "justice conquers" but "what is justice".  Life can never be so innocent.

In the end, we are all deluded by no one but ourselves.
